Ci sono risultati che, al di là delle immagini radiografiche o degli esami clinici, rappresentano il vero significato del nostro lavoro.

Nel maggio 2025 e nel novembre 2025 ho avuto l’opportunità di operare questo paziente, eseguendo una protesi monocompartimentale associata alla ricostruzione del legamento crociato anteriore (LCA) su entrambe le ginocchia. Il mio obiettivo era quello di consentirgli di tornare a vivere la vita che desiderava. Dopo questo percorso, il paziente ha progressivamente ripreso le sue attività quotidiane e sportive. Ieri mi ha inviato un messaggio che mi ha ricordato perchè ho scelto di fare questo nella vita. Mi ha raccontato di aver portato a termine una gara ciclistica di 112 chilometri con oltre 2.500 metri di dislivello. Un traguardo che, prima degli interventi, sembrava ormai irraggiungibile.

Le sue parole sono state semplici ma significative: mi ha ringraziato perché, grazie agli interventi, ha potuto tornare a fare ciò che ama.Per un chirurgo ortopedico non esiste soddisfazione più grande. Ogni paziente ha una storia diversa, aspettative diverse e un percorso personale. Quando la chirurgia, insieme alla riabilitazione e all’impegno del paziente, permette di restituire libertà di movimento e qualità della vita, il risultato va ben oltre il successo tecnico dell’intervento.

Naturalmente ogni caso è unico e gli esiti possono variare in base alle caratteristiche del paziente, alla patologia e al percorso riabilitativo. Tuttavia, testimonianze come questa ricordano perché ogni giorno svolgiamo questo lavoro con passione e dedizione.

A questo paziente vanno i miei più sinceri complimenti per la determinazione dimostrata. Aver concluso una gara di 112 km con 2.500 metri di dislivello rappresenta una straordinaria conquista personale, della quale sono davvero felice e orgoglioso.

When Surgery Restores Quality of Life

Some outcomes go far beyond X-rays or clinical examinations, they represent the true meaning of our work. In May 2025 and November 2025, I had the opportunity to operate on this patient, performing a unicompartmental knee replacement combined with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction on both knees.

My goal was to help him return to the life he wanted to live. Following this journey, the patient gradually resumed both his daily activities and his sports. Yesterday, he sent me a message that reminded me why I chose this profession. He told me he had completed a 112 kilometer cycling race with more than 2,500 meters of elevation gain, an achievement that, before surgery, had seemed completely out of reach.

His words were simple but deeply meaningful: he thanked me because, thanks to the surgeries, he was able to return to doing what he loves.

For an orthopedic surgeon, there is no greater satisfaction. Every patient has a unique story, different expectations, and a personal journey. When surgery, together with rehabilitation and the patient’s commitment, restores freedom of movement and quality of life, the outcome goes far beyond the technical success of the procedure. Of course, every case is unique, and outcomes may vary depending on the patient’s individual characteristics, the underlying condition, and the rehabilitation process. Nevertheless, stories like this remind us why we dedicate ourselves to this work with passion and commitment every day.
